Ring of Protection

A Ring of Protection is a magic ring that prevents transmission of disease and/or conception while worn during sex. The standard variety commonly available uses elemental cold to kill the sperm and any disease-causing agents. While only a minor inconvenience in Chapter 136: The Act, this proves to be a major problem for Mackenzie in Chapter 200: Mutual Feelings when Ian buys the extra strength version. The cold is so intense that her infernally cold-sensitive body locks up rigid until Ian removes the ring. In Chapter 201: Pizza With Friends it is revealed that there are alternative rings which use necromantic magic instead, but they are less socially acceptible because it upsets people's sensibilities.
