[edit] Biography
[edit] Early Life and Family
Very little has been revealed of Pala's early life or origins. She is presumably part-human, because she is enrolled in Magisterius University. It has been stated that she has brothers, sisters and cousins who enjoyed fighting (ref: More85). She has stated she lived 'up' before coming to Magisterius University. It was her Uncle Hallbjorn's idea that she come to Magisterius University and he gave her the spear she uses. It is refered to as her father's spear, which he named himself after. Her father is spoken of in the past tense and it seems that Pala has not met him.
[edit] School Life
She has not been shown at MU yet. It is unknown what classes she takes. She lives away from MU and commutes to the campus[1], though where she lives (ostensibly Enwich) and how she commutes is unknown.
[edit] Personal Life
She is friends with at least one person, named Lauren[1]. She is shown being befriended by Jamie and his friends in More MU.
[edit] Weapons, Armor, and Fighting Style
To comply with the university's weapons policy, Pala carries a spear. The head and a cylinder at the butt are stone, covered in runes. The requisite enchantments on it are unknown in their exact origin, as the spear has never been described in detail by anyone, but there is some mechanism which allows the spear to strike anyone who tries to wield it with lightning. It isn't known whether this is a divine or arcane trigger. She also uses some type of shield, covered in leather, that has the ability to "heal" itself, or otherwise make itself whole, upon being struck[2].
During Gladiatorial matches, Pala wears metal full-plate with a wolf's head somehow emblazoned on the breastplate (as it was described by Mack, she couldn't tell whether it was embossed or molded somehow onto the plate).[2]
Her fighting style fits her apparent personality[1]: slow and sure. She kept to the defensive for most of her match with Puddy, letting her either tire herself out, lose her confidence, or lose whatever magical advantage she had allegedly gained while Mack wasn't in the arena. As Puddy did so, Pala began mounting a slow, inexorable offensive[2].
Pala is an extremely honourable fighter. When Puddy laid down her weapon, Pala did the same, and when Puddy decided she was going to try to use Pala's weapon, Pala tried warning her about the enchantment or blessing on it[2].
Her current (albeit nascent) Gladiatorial record is 1-0 with a series of byes into the fourth round[1][2].
[edit] Character Speculation
Due to the heavy Norse references in both Pala's first and last name and in her appearance, weaponry, et cetera, it is assumed that the equivalent of the Norse in the MUniverse are the Storm Giants.
Pala translates into "small".
There are theories that Pala is semi-divine, given that Asgeirsdottir translates into "Daughter of the god-spear". It is unknown whether this theory has been proven wrong by the Storm Giant heritage or whether Pala is a special member of her race.
If she does turn out to be divine, there is a theory that states that Puddy was trying to protect Mack from an obviously powerful divine being, but that seems weak considering that Pala was moved up to fight Puddy in the fourth round.
There is an alternate explanation for her name, as well. If you assume that "God-spear" refers to lightning itself, it may not be a hint about Pala's divinity but how Storm Giants are born or created, some ritual or otherwise after-effect of a literal storm or lightning.
