It is the time of the Black Span in House d'Wyr, when the priestesses leave off their religious duties, turning over the house chapels to the male monks for cleansing and renewal. Delia Daella, latest in an unbroken line of twenty d'Wyr firstborn daughters, spends this time with her three lovers: Darek, a lieutenant in the House guard; Alea, a novice priestess; and Dehsah, who possess both a masculine member and feminine breasts.

Delia--Dee, to her friends and lovers--uses her mental abilities to link their minds such that all four feel every aspect of their lovemaking. This leads to them collapsing in mutual exhaustion after shared orgasms.

Afterward, Dee considers the political implications of her relationship with the other three, musing that only Darek would be an acceptable match for her, should she be called upon to take up the rulership of House d'Wyr. Alea notes the tenor of her thoughts, and chides her for her seriousness.

After a little bit of banter, Dee comments that Darek has had a wicked thought. Darek responds that having Dee's feelings of his member in her rear opening reflected back upon him almost makes him willing to try such himself.

Dehsah indicates willingness to do so, "when our Dee abandons us." There is silence for a long moment, before Dehsah apologizes. Then the four of them discuss the matter for a bit, Dee saying that going to the surface world is something she must do. Darek muses that she may be gone long enough for him to make captain, and then none could speak against their union. Alea demures, saying that she will still be the same, and it would be even easier for Dee's mother to persuade her against, after their time apart. Dehsah says the whole conversation is depressing, that they don't even know if the matriarch will permit Dee to depart, and suggests resuming lovemaking instead of conversation. Darek and Dehsah do so, while Dee and Alea hold each other and watch.
