Khaele

A goddess, apparently honored by some or all Nymphs as the source of a nymph's gifts. Amaranth first uses the name of Khaele in Chapter 22 as a mild expletive; in Chapter 34, she speaks of dishonoring Khaele when she believes she has inadvertently forced herself on Mackenzie.

Amaranth generally refers to Khaele as "Sweet Mother Khaele", either as a mild expletive or a formal title.

Khaele forbids sexual intercourse between her followers and nonintelligent beings.

Khaele sometimes visits nymphs in person. In the bonus story The Wind That Shakes The Barley, Amaranth mentions that Mother Khaele had visted her the day before. From Barley's reaction, that wasn't the first time that had happened either. Khaele also has appeared on television, allowing herself to be interviewed about the events on the campus, as they involved Amaranth. She publically orders Amaranth to open her ears.

At least some of the offerings to Khaele are burnt ones. In Chapter 68 Amaranth mentions scribing off a copy of an article from a periodical to include in her next burnt offering to Khaele.

She is likely the same as the deity the elves call the Mother of the Earth.
