Kai is a member of the feline race "Nekoyokai". Her distinctively colored fur attracted the unfortunate attention of Sooni who convinced Kai's parents to sell her into some sort of service. The nature of Kai's relationship with Sooni is unclear, but Kai clearly does not enjoy it the way Sooni does.

Sooni's obsession with the cartoon character Kai-kai ( Pretty Neko Science Princess ) seems to be her main reason for owning Kai. This implies that the name Kai is not a coincidence, but rather a "pet" name. Kai's true name is Ikayup.

Kai has surprisingly good Pax - far better than either of Sooni's two other "friends", Maliko and Suzi. She also appears to be highly interested in maintaining her current status, at least until she graduates from MU most likely due to the fact that she is getting an Imperial education paid for by someone else.

Kai ostensibly shares Room 416 with Sooni, however it is more likely that she actually stays in Room 414 with Suzi and Maliko since Sooni evidently threw her out back in Chapter 6: Introductions.
