Harlowe Hall
From MU Wiki
Harlowe Hall is the non-human or semi-human dorm on Magisterius University campus. It is one of the principal locations for the events of Tales of MU, as a number of major characters call it (at least temporarily) home.
[edit] Location On Campus
Harlowe Hall is one of three residence halls that meet around a particular lobby/hallway. There has been no indication as to its location on campus relative to anything else.
The other two residence halls in the cluster are Pelinor Hall and Burlew Hall. Indications are that both of these are primarily human housing.
[edit] Construction
Harlowe was originally intended to house both men and women, while keeping the genders separate. The primary method used to this end was solid brick walls, dividing each floor in half and leaving only the basement lobby as a means to move from one side to the other without exiting the building. While it is permitted for women and men to visit one another, there is a curfew by which point they have to return to their own areas. It has been noted that Amaranth, Barley, and Puddy all have an exemption allowing them to remain in the male half of Harlowe after hours, due to their nymph nature. There is also a hall that extends off of Harlowe which is not counted as part of the hall- this has been given over to a fraternity and includes rooms numbered 400-409. This split was made when Harlowe was turned into the non-human dorm.
Harlowe also features its own spell labs, summoning rooms, and ball room, which have been carefully made perfectly equal to any other facilities on campus.
Each floor in Harlowe has two lounge areas, in addition to dorm rooms. These lounges are split, with one on the men's side, and one on the women's. It's worth noting that while the womens' side contained a fridge, sink, warmer, toaster, and full stove, the men's side had only the fridge, sink, warmer and toaster, but a larger television. Each side also has twelve rooms, intended for two people apiece, as well as the room for the resident adviser, a small cleaning closet, and the shared bathrooms (all of which are located together at the end of the hall). Because the basement and first floor do not have dorm rooms, the numbering system starts on the second floor. Thus, the Fifth Floor Girls rooms are numbered 410-421. Presumably (as 400-409 are no longer part of Harlowe) the room numbers on the mens' side continue from 422-433.
It appears that the fifth floor is given to freshman, the fourth to sophomores, the third to juniors and the second to seniors.
Outside, Harlowe's main entrance leads to a sunken plaza which is hidden from the view of the rest of campus by a hedge. Areas to sit and eat can be found here.
[edit] Perks
Residents at Harlowe enjoy several perks, including private spell labs, summoning rooms, a ball room, and a complementary meal plan. The official reason for all of these amenities is to make everyone feel as comfortable as possible, however there has been some speculation that the true reason is to keep the non-human students at Magisterius out of sight from the rest of the university. While there has not been any sign of overt prejudice or bias, there have been indications that at the very least, the administration does not appreciate being accused of such things.
