Demon

Demons are infernal humanoid beings who prey exclusively on humans. Because of this, they are considered monsters; pure-blooded demons are feared and those of mixed human/demon ancestry are looked upon with suspicion at the very least. Individual demons' diets vary, and may include the blood or various body parts, or even abstract qualities like beauty or virginity. Mackenzie Blaise, as a half-demon, needs the blood of human virgins to survive; she does not need to kill or even feed directly from the donor. Demons may be depicted with a variety of bestial features, but in reality a demon looks completely human unless using illusionary or shapeshifting magic. [1] Demons are immune to most physical damage but can be hurt by magic - arcane magic seems to have much the same effect on them as on anyone else, and any application of divine energy is dangerous to a demon, including divine healing. Holy symbols and signs will also repel demons; because the god Khersis is specifically held to fight demons, khersian symbols and signs such as the Egg of Khersis and Arms of Khersis are often used and are possibly more potent than other holy signs or symbols, but this has not been confirmed.

Demons generally live in a hell-like otherworld and need magical assistance to enter the main world, either by possessing a human or by being summoned. In the bonus story Devil Children it is suggested that demons used to live in the main world before being banished by Khersis. It is also suggested that demons have difficult time possessing people, but it is much easier than actually physically manifesting; demonic possession can be enabled by negligence, rather than overt intention.

Mack can set parts of herself on fire; this is probably typical of the demon race, judging from Puddy's reaction in the second chapter and from later comments regarding Demon Fire. She can also see in the dark, although she does not believe her night-vision to be any better than a human's. She shown a definite preference for warm environments, and, judging by the events at the Dwarfs party, feels most comfortable at temperatures which would be intolerable for humans. Presumably she cannot be harmed by any flame, except perhaps if it is somehow blessed. However, she has a weakness to cold: she is unable to tolerate temperatures that most humans find merely cool, and has had adverse reactions to Rings of Protection that use Elemental Cold.

In general, aptitude with one element can translate into others, so it is at least likely that demons can also have significant talents with regard to other elements. Mack has so far demonstrated this with her exceptional progress in her elemental magic classes, and her feats in her magical duel against Sooni, which included the incredibly difficult task of pulling earth out of the air.
